With over 10 years of experience in local school districts, Dr. Laura is intimately familiar with special education and the process of seeking specialized services for children and adolescents in the public school system. Her entire career in the public schools was focused on evaluating students (between the ages of 2 years, 9 months and 22) suspected of having significant emotional and behavioral difficulites. As such, she is very knowledgable about the various special education eligibility categories (e.g., autism, emotional disturbance, other health impairment) and is able to observe subtle differences between categories. In addition, given her years of experience, she is fully versed in available options for special education intervention. Dr. Laura firmly believes that school districts should evaluate educational need as it relates to a student's social, emotional, behavioral and academic needs and intervene, as needed, in all of these areas. Failing grades are not the only the sign that a student may need to be evaluated for special education services.
Educational support consultation with Dr. Laura provides you an opportunity to address concerns about your child's progress in school and get some direction and support from a professional experienced in evaluation and intervention. In addition, educational support consultation could assist in helping you determine if professional evaluation of your child is a good choice for your family. If needed, educational support consultation could include interaction and/or interfacing with your child's school.
