Areas of Specialty
Dr. Laura's training and career have been focused on evaluating and treating youth, from toddlers to young adults. She has received extensive training in child psychological evaluation, assessing a variety of disorders, including Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD and anxiety and mood disorders. Dr. Laura has also received specialized training in the evaluation and treatment of children exposed to trauma. In 2005, she became the first Staff Psychologist at DePelchin Children's Center.
Dr. Laura has worked and consulted in a variety of settings, including public schools, community agencies, private practice, juvenile justice centers and residential treatment centers. She understands the nuances of childhood disorders and has extenseive experience with research-based interventions. With over 10 years of experience in local school districts, she is also intimately familiar with the process of evaluating students for special education services as well as the procedures for obtaining services in the public schools. In 2008, given her desire to improve interventions for children on the autism spectrum, Dr. Laura completed the Social Thinking Clinical Training program under Michelle Garcia Winner in San Jose, CA (www.socialthinking.com). Throughout the years, she has presented in numerous agencies and school districts on behavioral intervention and academic accommodations.
Background and Training
Dr. Laura is a clinical psychologist who grew up in Houston, Texas. She attended Baylor University as an undergraduate, with a major in Psychology and a minor in Child & Family Studies. At Texas Tech University, she earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. After graduate school, Dr. Laura completed her pre-doctoral internship at Baylor College of Medicine, Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and her post-doctoral hours at DePelchin Children's Center. She became a Licensed Psychologist in 2005 and a LSSP in 2006.
